Precautions After Cesarean Delivery

By adam eric at 2011-01-21 02:10:33
A Cesarean delivery, you must understand, is a major surgery. It involves the cutting of abdominal muscles length-wise, and then their stitching. The surgery leaves almost all the abdominal muscles tender, weak and prone to inflammation and infection at the slightest carelessness.

However, before a woman goes in for intercourse after pregnancy, there are certain factors she should keep in mind. According to the doctors, the vagina requires 5 to 6 weeks to heal itself of tears and other issues post childbirth. Then there is the sex position that a woman should adopt while going in for lovemaking after pregnancy. She should not adopt any position that puts pressure on her tummy while enjoying sex after pregnancy.

It starts with taking control. Your doctor may say you need a c-section and you may very well need one, but it's really up to you to help yourself accept the idea. If you have time, get a second opinion or talk to others who have been in the same situation. Of course, in an emergency you won't have much time to debate the issue, which is why you should at least understand why c-sections are necessary and when they may not be.

Care should be taken to ensure that the weight gain does not exceed the level suggested by her doctor. For this, an expectant mother should be weighed regularly every month during the first six months of her pregnancy and every fortnight thereafter. Care should also be taken to ensure that there is no weight gain beyond 2 kg on an average, every month.

The Surgeon General concludes that Infants born to women who are obese during pregnancy are more likely to be high birth weight and, therefore, may face a higher rate of Cesarean section delivery and low blood sugar (which can be associated with brain damage and seizures). Obesity during pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of birth defects, particularly neural tube defects, such as spina bifida.

These questions always raise in the minds of the parents especially the mother about what to do and what not to do for the baby inside her to be safe. The mother is the one is to take utmost care of her which in turn will result in the good health of her baby. She has to avoid certain food stuffs to take care of the baby. But there are lots of other precautions to be taken during pregnancy.

The eye drops are just a precaution. It is a practice that is accepted and done in much of the world, and is even a law in many states. The most common antibiotic given today is erythromycin, however some places still administer silver nitrate which is the first antibiotic that was given starting back in the late 1800's. Silver Nitrate, however, has been found to irritate the baby's eyes, and cause much discomfort.

To bear a child in this world is no doubt one of the most wonderful things that can happen to a woman. But for some women, it is not as simple as carrying a child in your womb and delivering them after nine months. Such is the dilemma of women with diabetes. For the longest time, diabetes and pregnancy are two things that didn't really mix well together. It was used to be discouraged by health workers and doctors due to the complications that may arise from the combination of the two.

If primary infection occurred shortly before, or during the first trimester of pregnancy, the unborn baby is at risk. Since it takes approximately 6 weeks for antibodies to appear, there is a 3% chance of the infant becoming infected by viral shedding during vaginal birth. In rare cases, transmission could occur via the placenta. In this instance there is a 5% possibility of the baby being born with serious birth defects.

It is common for genital herpes-infected mothers to give birth without passing the virus on to their infant, even with normal vaginal delivery. In fact, according to the American Social Health Association, less than 0.1% of infants born in America each year contract genital herpes during delivery.

In very rare situations, a mother with genital herpes can cause neonatal herpes in a newborn child. Neonatal herpes is very, very uncommon, and there is a very low chance that a mother with genital herpes during pregnancy will infect their child. However, the small chance still exists, and the disease can be life-threatening to your child. By taking the right precautions, you can negate the risk and give birth to a happy and healthy baby.
