Innovative Hair Transplant Technique

By adam eric at 2011-01-24 01:03:15
Although many technical advances have been made in the field of surgical hair restoration over the past decade, particularly with the widespread adoption of follicular transplantation, many problems remain. The majority revolve around doctors recommending surgery for patients who are not good candidates. The most common reasons that patients should not proceed with surgery are that they are too young and that their hair loss pattern is too unpredictable.

Experiments performed by the hair transplant surgeon Dr Seager in 1996 gave significant credence to the surgical technique of unit follicular hair transplant. Since these experiments had demonstrated that the survival rate of intact follicular unit was better than the single hair micro-grafts, the use of micro-grafts for hair transplant surgery was more or less dropped.

Only precautions that hair transplant surgery with these mini and micro grafts is that the dissected mini and micro grafts are to be inserted into the scalp as fast as possible after a silt is made. Transplanting of the grafts in the shortest possible time increases the chances of the hair follicles surviving the hair transplant procedures and actually grow into hair. To hasten up the above mentioned hair transplant surgery procedure.

Because of their small size, the micro and mini-grafts have lower metabolic requirement than the plug grafts and have better survival rate than the follicular units, which can be damaged during dissection. Since these grafts are able to successfully grow on burnt scalp or fibroid areas, they seem to hold a high promise for the reconstructive hair transplant surgeries.

Follicular hair transplant technique follows a well laid out pattern. Follicular hair transplants allow the surgeon to use small recipient site. During the surgery the follicular units that are removed from the donor tissue are minutely studied by a microscope. This stereomicroscopic dissection raises the yield of the absolute number of follicular units, and that of the total amount of hair as well.

Those patients need to come back for physician evaluation and hair wash the day after surgery. During this first visit, the bandage is removed and donor wound and the transplanted hair is assessed. The donor and recipient areas need to be washed very carefully while teaching the patient how to wash it at home during day two to four after hair transplantation.

The origins of hair transplant surgery stem from Japanese dermatologist, Dr. Okuda, who in 1939 published a revolutionary method in a Japanese medical journal of using small grafts that were similar to the way hair transplantation is performed today. This method involved using hair transplant grafts to correct lost hair from various body areas, including the scalp, eyebrow, and moustache areas.

It is best to have detailed information about the hair transplant procedure before you make plans to undergo a surgery. It is only after you have read through all the information that you can understand and appreciate the significance of surgical hair restoration. The information will also help you decider whether you are the right candidate for the hair transplant surgery.

The technique of moving hair bearing skin tissue grafts from one part of the scalp to another dates back at least 50 years. In the 1950's a pioneering surgeon by the name of Dr. Norman Orentreich began to experiment with the idea on willing patients. Orentreich's groundbreaking work demonstrated a concept that became known as donor dependance, or donor identity

Women often suffer diffuse hair loss, that is, a general thinning of the hair all over the scalp. The front hairline is mostly unaffected, unlike men who experience a receeding hairline. A woman's hair can be affected by DHT, no matter where it is on the scalp. If hair at the donor site is affected by DHT, it stands to reason it can easily fall out once it is transplanted to another area.
