Diseases of the Spleen

By adam eric at 2011-02-22 01:21:48
Since we live in a world that is filled with fast food, convenience foods and other low quality foods, we find that indigestion and other stomach related issues are becoming a daily problem in our lives. The highly processed and enzyme dead foods that we consume are a major cause of these digestive issues.

The spleen is located on the left side of the abdomen. It is ovoid in shape, red brown in color and is friable. It is situated just below the diaphragm. Diaphragm is a structure which separates the chest cavity from the abdomen. In the abdominal cavity, the spleen is situated deep inside near the 9th, 10th and the 11th ribs. The spleen is covered by a thin membrane called the peritoneum.

The spleen is a part of the lymphatic system in the body which implies that lymph circulates through it. It is located in the upper portion of the left quadrant in the abdominal region. It is approximately 12cm x 7cm x 2cm, weighs around 150 grams and dark purplish in color.

It is responsible for proper functioning of the immune system, supply of blood during emergencies like accidents, hemorrhages and so on wherein the individual suffers severe loss of blood, and supplies red blood cells to the fetus till fifth month of pregnancy.

Immune system diseases can be divided into two basic categories. There are dysfunctions or diseases of the immune system in which the body's ability to fight disease is impaired and dysfunctions or diseases of the immune system in which the immune system overreacts to stimuli, causing damage to the other organs or systems of the body.

You can treat chronic cold by cleansing your nostrils. You should simply sniff great mullein tea, pass it through your nostrils and get it out through your mouth. Perform the procedure twice a day - in the morning and evening. You can snort the powder of great mullein blossoms, as well. In addition, this procedure can be used to treat polyps, scrofula and rashes.

Great mullein possesses great variety of healing properties. As a result, the herb has been used for medical purposes since ancient times. The herb should be sown in early spring. During the first year a large rosette of leaves is going to grow, but on the second year you will be able to collect small yellow blossoms. The blossoms should be dried quickly. You can even expose them to direct sunlight.

Hepatosplenomegaly is characteristically caused by a disease or condition concerning the kidneys, liver or red blood cells. These would include viral infections, such as chronic hepatitis C, cirrhosis, typhoid, kidney and liver infections and blood diseases. If an individual has non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for example, the liver and spleen enlarge as the cancer progresses.

Kidney energy is believed to control the kidney, heart function, fluid balance, cellular energy, cellular detoxification and elimination of toxins. When we look at kidney disease, it is most often the result of hypertension and diabetes. Kidney energy is important for cellular vitality, cellular uptake of nutrients, immune defense and cellular detoxi-fication and elimination of toxins through the kidney.

Traditional Chinese medicine is also known as TCM. It is derived from the philosophy of the Taoist. The theory believes that life and activity of each human being have an inter-relationship with the environment on all levels. Major components of the theory includes those of Yin-yang, the five elements, the human body's meridian channels, and the Zang Fu organ theory.

Another function of the liver is to take up glucose that is not required immediately by the body's cells, and store it as glycogen. When the body needs to generate more energy and heat, the liver (under the stimulation of hormones) converts the glycogen back to glucose and releases it into the bloodstream.

The first thing that surprised me to find out was that Gaucher Disease is most common among people who are either Jewish or from Eastern or Central Europe. Coming from a Jewish home, it explained a lot to me. Another thing that I learned that also surprised, and also scared me was that Gaucher Disease is also inherited, meaning it's passed on from your parents.
