Treatment of Ischemic colitis

By adam eric at 2010-12-06 01:14:39
When it comes to the heart, there are so many health conditions that can affect this sensitive part of the body. One of these medical conditions is the myocardial ischemia. Some people also call this as the Angina as well. This happens when the heart no longer receives blood that is rich in oxygen. Although this is a temporary state, this may still lead to severe problems or can even be fatal as well.

Angina attacks associated with risk factors for heart disease influence the doctor to diagnose a blockage in the coronary arteries very quickly. On the contrary, the diagnosis of silent ischemia is more difficult to establish. For people with silent ischemia who don't show any obvious symptoms, if they are men with age over 40 years or women over 50, or if they have jobs related to public safety it is recommended they should start an adequate exercise program.

The main cause of the ischaemic heart disease is the narrowing or the blockage of the coronary arteries that have a very important function that is to supply blood and oxygen to the heart muscle. Healthy arteries are clean, slick and smooth. Their wall is flexible and it can become larger when a bigger quantity of blood is required to pass through. When this wall is injured a disease called atherosclerosis occurs. This causes the deposit of fat, calcium and cholesterol from your blood in the arteries walls.

Treatment of Ischemic colitis:

Here is list of the methods for treating Ischemic colitis:

Mild, transient ischemic colitis is treated by maintaining good blood pressure.

Chronic ischemic colitis leading to stricture formation is treated by surgical removal of the stricture.

With such conservative measures, symptoms often diminish in 24 to 48 hours in mild cases, without the need for hospitalization.

Osteochondritis dissecans is the most common cause of a loose body in the joint space in adolescent patients. In osteochondritis dissecans, a loose piece of bone and cartilage separates from the end of the bone because of a loss of blood supply. OCD is a form of osteochondrosis limited to the articular epiphysis. Articular epiphyses fail as a result of compression. Both trauma and ischemia probably are involved in the pathology.

Cardiogenic shock can be caused by disorders of the heart muscle, the valves, or the heart's electrical conduction system. Cardiogenic shock is life threatening and requires emergency medical treatment. Dopamine, dobutamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, amrinone, or other medications may be required to increase blood pressure and heart functioning.

The most important treatment for a silent heart attack is restoring the blood flow to the heart. These silent attacks lack the majority of the usual symptoms of a standard heart attack but can still be recognized through ordinary signs such as discomfort in your chest, arms or jaw that seem to go away after resting, fatigue or extreme tiredness, nausea, sweating(particularly cold sweat), breathlessness and dizziness. An interesting statistic is that 25-30% of all heart attacks are silent.

Silent heart attacks can happen especially to those with prior heart attacks and who have diabetes and are over the age of 65 and those prone to strokes. The symptoms of a silent heart attack can be vague and mild but one must remember that they can be just as serious and life threatening as heart attacks with a severe chest pain.

The colon and rectum are the organs where these other illnesses primarily crop up. In the colon, the other 7 main infirmities are colorectal cancer, colon polyp, diverticulosis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, intestinal ischemia and peptic ulcer. There are 4 other predominant afflictions in the rectum, namely anal fissures, anorectal fistulae, proctitis and rectal prolapse.

It is difficult to comprehend how often these types of heart attacks occur, and no one can predict the future outcome of this condition. They are silent in nature and detection is elusive until after the fact. They also occur more often in people who have significant heart disease. With heart disease, the nerves surrounding the heart are usually damaged, which explains how a silent heart attack can happen without the victim's knowledge.

Symptoms of a stroke start suddenly because they are caused by a sudden interruption of blood flow to an area of the brain. When this happens it only takes a few seconds for the brain to stop functioning. Only a small proportion of strokes produce headache symptoms. However, the sudden onset of severe headache make doctors suspect a bleeding within the brain. Due to the high risk of death in these cases, people entering the emergency room complaining of severe headaches are quick to detect the presence of blood in the brain.

Most of these symptoms tend to get overlooked and unless the symptoms are extremely serious and jeopardizing the daily activities, practically nothing is done to alleviate the discomforts. It is very important that the symptoms are not neglected. A doctor should be consulted at the earliest to ensure that the health is taken care of. There are several instances when people suffer from heart attacks due to "overloaded" conditions.

Angina pectoris is the result of myocardial ischemia caused by an imbalance between myocardial blood supply and oxygen demand. In most cases, the lack of blood supply is due to a narrowing of the coronary arteries as a result of arteriosclerosis. This pain is known as angina.
