Pityriasis Rosea Causes

By adam eric at 2010-12-10 04:02:21
Symptoms of pityriasis rosea include the common 'herald' or 'mother' pinkish, scaly patch that begins in one region of your body (mainly somewhere on the torso) and spreads throughout your back, abdomen, chest, arms, legs, neck and sometimes the face. Unfortunately, seniors are the ones who experience the patches on their face. Other symptoms include itching, (the itching can be mild or severe) and flu-like symptoms (headache, sore throat, fever, loss of appetite).

No treatment is usually required as it generally spontaneously resolves in about 6 to 8 weeks.

In cases where itch is bothersome, antihistamines or topical steroids are sometimes prescribed. Exposing the rash to sunlight has been found to make it go away more quickly. As such, treatment with ultraviolet light (which is most useful only in the first week of eruption) has been used to hasten resolution.

Pityriasis Rosea Treatment and Prevention Tips

1. Keep the itchy area cool and moist.

2. Avoid taking hot showers or baths. Keep the water as cool as you can tolerate.

3. Try an oatmeal bath, such as Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal bath, to help relieve itching.

4. Apply a moisturizer or calamine lotion to the skin while it is damp.

The most effective form of treatment will understand this process and target the reason why you could not deal with the stress. It may have come about from anticipating an interview or public talk and the idea of this terrified you. It may have occurred because you were fired from your job and now you feel worthless.

The exact cause of Pityriasis Rosea is unknown but it is believed to be caused by a virus. The disease is not contagious and most commonly affects adolescents and young adults between the ages of 10 and 35. While one may contract Pityriasis Rosea at any time of the year, it is more commonly seen in the spring and fall. Dermatologists diagnose this condition by inspecting the rash but may also conduct blood tests and skin biopsies by examining skin samples from the affected area under a microscope. Potassium hydroxide tests can also be conducted to rule out fungal infections.

Pityriasis rosea is an acute and characteristic rash which usually lasts about 2 to 6 weeks. Initially, a primary plaque called a herald patch is seen, which is followed by a distinctive, generalized rash 1 to 2 weeks later. Skin color changes may follow the inflammatory stage. Itching is very common and may be quite intense. The rash may have prodromal symptoms like malaise, nausea, anorexia, fever, joint pain, lymph node swelling and headache. A predilection to skin diseases and the use of certain medications are risk factors for this disease.

According to the American Association of Dermatology it is a rash that occurs most commonly in people between the ages of 10 and 35, but may occur at any age. The cause is unknown. Pityriasis rosea is not a sign of any internal disease, nor is it caused by a fungus, bacteria, or an allergy. Pityriasis rosea often requires no treatment and it usually goes away by itself. However, treatment may include external or internal medications for itching.

Allergies. Different foods soaps, detergents, medicines, dyes, insect bites cause allergic rashes. A new medication may cause allergic drug rash. Medicines, which have been prescribed for years, rarely cause an allergic reaction. There is hardly a test to check whether a rash is allergic. Hence, doctors often just advice to stop a drug and to see what happen. If the rash stays for a week without the medication, it is doubtfully an allergy. Foods rarely cause allergies.

If you experience any type of common body rash such as prickly heat rash, groin rash, fungal rash, or HIV rash then you might consider using a natural supplement to cleanse the skin from the inside. I've been recommending a natural herbal/biochemic tissue salt combination product.

Some of the most common skin disorders include acne, dry skin, bed sores, calluses and corns, keratosis pilaris, psoriasis, pityriasis rosea, rosacea and sebaceous cysts. Most of these disorders need to be treated by an authentic dermatologist, whereas a few can be treated through the ordinary skin care and aesthetic clinics. Acne and the dry skin are even treatable at home if you have the very basic knowledge of how they happen, how to cure them, and what to do to help prevent them from recurring.

Pityriasis rosea - it is pinkish or oval shaped skin rashes which is called herald patch that are found in the Chest, back and upper arms. It is commonly seen in person ranging from the age of 15-40 years old. At a first glance, you may attach it to a ringworm disease.

Diagnosing ringworm can be done by several different methods. Most will not show up under normal diagnostic techniques and the search can continue. Black lights, microscopic exams and cultures can be done. All of these will be able to distinguish some types of ringworm, but none will diagnose all of them. Knowing the proper way to treat ringworm can be relatively expensive. There is not need for very expensive salves and ointments.
