Walnuts have shown to increase brain, cognitive, & mental function, they provide cardiovascular protection, anti-inflammatory benefits in asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory diseases like eczema and psoriasis. They are pack full of an antioxidant known as ellgic acid, which has shown to contain 16 disease fighting polyphenols.

Nearly all nuts are a great health food. They are an excellent source of protein. A handful of nuts will energize you and are power-packed with nutrients. Nuts in general, and peanuts in particular, are high in the bioflavonoid 'resveratrol'. This bioflavonoid has a number of beneficial health effects, such as anti-cancer, antiviral, anti-aging, and is believed to help prevent the formation of arterial plaques.

Most people don't eat enough of them, which is partly due to their high calorie and fat content. Yes, they may be high in fat, but they contain high levels of healthy fats, which are known to have heart-protective benefits. Researchers have found that people who eat nuts regularly have lower risks of heart disease, and research is showing that health benefits appear to increase as nut consumption increases.

Weight loss is not the only benefit of nuts. Walnuts and Brazil nuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. This means that they also fight heart disease and possibly arthritis. Vitamin E is found in significant amounts in most nuts. Vitamin E helps lower LDL cholesterol, which is also beneficial to your heart. Also seeds are a fantastic source of folic acid. Folic acid helps prevent the buildup of an amino acid known as homocysteine. High levels of this amino acid can cause heart disease, stroke, and dementia.

Walnuts have been studied for their effects on lowering bad cholesterol and blood pressure and amazing results have been obtained. In the study which was conducted on a sample of healthy men, results shown that consumption of a handful of walnuts into their daily diet reduced total cholesterol levels and favorably altered their lipoprotein profile.

Nuts are an amazing food. Nuts are very beneficial for your health and they taste great too! Nuts are high in calories but they are still very beneficial to your body because they are loaded with mono saturated fats, which help to lower heart disease. Many nuts are rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 essential fatty acids are good for your heart and for your arteries.

Three ounces of pistachios (about two handfuls) have 400 calories. If you are eating 2,000 calories a day this makes up 20 percent of your caloric intake. However, the fats in nuts are the more heart friendly polyunsaturated and monounsaturated, and nuts have no cholesterol. The monounsaturates with some polyunsaturates in nuts make an ideal combination of fats which have been linked to improving cholesterol levels and promoting heart health.

How can you make these options healthier? Well, when you enjoy your pint, resist the peanuts - that'll save you over 300 calories. Try popping the popcorn at home and adding spices instead of sugary toppings. If you're a cheese and biscuit lover, choose a lower-calorie main meal to limit the total caloric intake. And when choosing a curry, go for a tandoori option that will typically provide you with around 300 calories, and plain rice.

Eat nuts with unsalted, unbuttered popcorn or add to pasta dishes, steamed vegetables, meats, and soups. Nuts can be lightly toasted in the oven to enhance their flavor and then eaten alone. Do remember that eating nuts covered with chocolate or salt will be quite tasty but will negate the healthy benefits.

While nuts do contain a high proportion of fat, tree nuts such as almonds, walnuts, pecans, hazel nuts, Brazil nuts, and macadamia are actually low in saturated fat. Most of the fat comes in the form of monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids, which are considered to be acceptable forms of fat that actually "reduce" the incidence of heart and vascular disease.
