Laser Skin Resurfacing

By adam eric at 2011-01-10 03:51:04
Fractional laser skin resurfacing was developed to eliminate many of the problems associated with traditional old time laser skin resurfacing. Traditional laser skin resurfacing was very effective at wrinkle removal, but recovery was long and difficult and the skin often turned white, called hypo pigmentation, 6 months after treatment. Fractional laser skin resurfacing was developed to remove wrinkles and rejuvenate the skin with minimal downtime, quick recovery and normal skin color and texture after the skin rejuvenation procedure.

Laser skin resurfacing produces excellent results in the right hands but can be horribly disfiguring in the wrong hands. Laser skin resurfacing can help to correct years of aging through reduction in age spots, wrinkle removal, and tightening of skin. Through skin tightening, laser skin resurfacing can be a good treatment for scars, particularly acne scars.

Laser skin resurfacing, unlike a surgical facelift, seeks to improve facial appearance by targeting the more superficial layers of the skin. Whereas a facelift removes droopy bulges and sagging skin, skin resurfacing procedures improve wrinkles, scars, and uneven pigmentation on the skin surface. Lasers work by removing the outer layer of skin, which includes thickened and dead skin layers.

Carbon dioxide laser resurfacing is normally used for removing the deep lines and wrinkles that have resulted from aging. It can also be used on certain layers of the skin to address acne problems, scars, fine lines, and other skin imperfections. The result of this laser procedure is very much like dermabrasion or skin peeling. The only difference is that carbon dioxide lasers work by vaporizing the skin layers.

The second group will often use resurfacing to remove the effects of acne, from shallow scars to the darkened blemishes that can be left behind, even after the acne has been long healed. As an acne treatment, done over time, it can completely restore the overall skin tone and smoothness as if acne was never present.

There are several different types of lasers used for skin resurfacing, and each with their own results. Ultra pulsed CO2 lasers can have the most dramatic effects of the group, removing the top layer of skin but also tightening and smoothing the lower skin layers through stimulating collagen production. This means that even deep acne scars can be reduced with this laser.

However, there are little or no side effects noted in most cases of laser skin resurfacing. If they do arise, the usual cases are minor scarring, burning, or uneven skin color. It is very uncommon for pathogens and viruses to find their way to the skin right after the procedure. Skin resurfacing may restore the skin's lost beauty. But then again, it doesn't eliminate new wrinkles, minor imperfections, or discolorations that could have emerged later on in life.

Ablative laser therapy vaporizes old, damaged, discolored, and wrinkled skin with short, concentrated beams of intense pulsed light. This process not only gets rid of old damaged skin but stimulates the growth of fresh, new skin. Collagen fibers, which are chiefly responsible for the youthful appearance of our skin are more plentiful as new skin forms. This virgin skin also has increased blood flow and better tone giving patients a more youthful complexion.

It involves the use of the laser to essentially burn away at the top layers of skin on the patient. This elimination of the top layers of skin allows new skin to grow into the area; this new skin generally grows in to look smoother and more supple than the skin it replaced. This operation can be done with several different types of lasers; the type used will depend on the type of resurfacing performed.

There are many choices of laser resurfacing procedures. You have many great options before you, and they would allow you to attain that perfect beauty that you've always wanted. You might want to setup a consultation with the qualified doctors practicing near you to help you decide which procedure is best for you.
